About Us

Nurture Taranaki helps prepare and upskill first time parents. We provide specific parenting education, empowerment and support to help create an optimum home environment for baby.

Nurture Taranaki is offered to first time pregnant women, where social and family circumstances challenges the health and well-being of their children.

The service provided is free, long term and home based, which promotes healthy child development within a nurturing family environment.

Families participate on a voluntary basis and are provided with intensive support and assistance by professionally qualified and well-supervised Parenting Coach / Kaiawhina.

What We Do

We help boost parents confidenceat the very beginning  of their parenting journey

  • Promote physical, social and emotional well-being of infants and children

  • Teach healthy child development and build strong attachments

  • Monitor child and home safety

  • Provide parenting Education 

  • Encourage participation in Early Childhood 

  • Initiate participation in Local Parenting Groups

  • Offer suggestions for local family activities

  • Provide support through crisis

  • Strengthening family supports

  • Teach healthy food options

  • Link engagement with household budgeting advice

  • Support the transition to return to work

  • Boost parent confidence

  • Offer support with sleeping and eating routines

How We Do It

Nurture Taranaki is a weekly home visiting support service for families who are expecting their first baby.

Families living in the Central and North Taranaki area are eligible for this long term home-visiting service. We can work alongside you and your family until your child goes to school.

Together we make a plan and work to achieve it.
 

Criteria

Eligibility for this programme is for first time pregnancies and any of the following:

  • Teenage pregnancy

  • Limited support

  • Minimal antenatal care

  • Economic disadvantage

  • Lack of essential resources

  • Compromised social skills

  • Little or no formal educational qualifications

  • Limited experience or skills in parenting

  • Mental health problems eg: depression

  • Involvement in the Criminal Justice System

  • Addictions - drug, alcohol, gambling

  • Relationship problems - family violence, conflict, lack of support

Parenting Education

Parenting education is a core component of the programme and flows from the beginning of our visits through to when the child goes to school. We use programmes that have been successful internationally and are widely researched.

Age Birth-3 Years

PIPE (Partners in Parenting Education) is a research informed curriculum. It is based on neuroscience & the importance of the first 1000 days of a Childs life.

This programme captures the imagination of new parents and inspires them to LOVE LISTEN & PLAY with their babies for optimum live long outcomes.

Age 3-5 Years

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programs in the world. It provides simple and practical strategies to help parents build strong, healthy relationships, confidently manage their children’s behavior and prevent problems developing.
